With sport tyres, grip in every situation is what decides — under hard acceleration, under braking, in the dry and in the wet. Bridgestone DUELER H/P SPORT belongs to this group. Stability at higher speeds and precision through corners come on top of that. One thing drivers often underestimate when buying: grip comes from a softer compound, and a softer compound wears faster. Where a standard tyre covers roughly 40,000 km, a sport tyre manages about 20,000 to 30,000 km — and considerably less with a sharper driving style or a heavier, more powerful car.

<p>Wet grip feels ok noting that I drive to the conditions and that the Subaru is awd. Have driven in cold torrential rain (3 deg C) with no issues with aquaplaning noting that I drove to the conditions. Wear has been good except that the outside edge has worn most likely due to the roundabouts. Tyres should last to 80,000km noting the worn edges</p>
OEM on my Subaru Forester in Thailand. They seem to do everything very well. It's not a fast car, but they handle hot dry and wet conditions well and better than I expected given some other reviews, the grip levels on this fitment are excellent, especially in the dry. Ride comfort is fine, but the car itself might flatter here. Slight shoulder wear on fronts at 15k miles, but nothing concerning. I would buy again depending on the deal, but there's a lot of choice in this tyre size.
This is in particular review of the Sport AS variant, which is available outside of EU and is OEM fit to my car.
This is one dull tire.
I have driven another, but modern, European style allseason tire, Continental AllSeasonContact 2 and it such a different experience. CrosClimate 2 feels like a good touring tire in both wet and dry, with okish usability in mild snow, Dueler H/P is anything but.
In the dry, with road temperatures over 7 degrees:
- It slips under acceleration and easily overwhelmed, especially is some steering angle is applied.
- Braking distance is good.
- The tire is soft and absorbs bumps easily.
- Handling is slow and inert, with the tire feeling like it is bending in the sidewall, before transferring the input to the ground.
In the wet, with temperatures over 7 degrees, it actually behaves the best. Since you are not pushing for the handling, great braking distances and limited slip makes them feel planted.
In the dry, but below 7 degrees and up to the negative temperatures, the tire behaves ok and comfortable with soft sidewalls contributing to plush ride.
In the wet, below 7 degrees and in the negative, the tire slips under acceleration quite easily and brakes traction, but brakes decently.
In the snow, the tire is totally hopeless.
Bridgestone advertises it with slogans like "Spruce up your sports truck or SUV with the high-performance Dueler H/P Sports AS tires. Engineered to give you the confidence to perform on wet and dry surfaces as well as handle changing conditions with ease", but in all honesty, this feels like a tire from a bygone era, where all year tires were the norm.
Would not recommend even as a summer tire, let alone as a winter one.
If you are after an AllSeason tire, chose something European, like CrossClimate or similar.
Mercedes GLA200 AMG line (front wheel drive) that was factory fitted with Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport (MOE) tyres, not my choose of car but it cost me 1/3 of the used retail price. I normally use Michelin Supersports and Pirelli P Zero Corsa UHP tyres on higher performance cars.
I was a bit sceptical when I discovered MOE was Mercedes run flat system, I expected the car be harsh over bumps and skip on bumpy corners like my previous experience with BMW E90 Bridgestone run flats but was pleasantly surprised.
On the French motorways to the south of France, I found the car very stable and easy to place at speed (up to 80 mph officer). I have on occasions pushed the tyres and found them predictable wet and dry but never tried them on snow.
After driving 40000 mainly relax miles (it’s not a sports car) on the tyres I replaced the whole set with the same. Bit more expensive but the tyre are well matched to the car, even tyre wear and no tramlining even when worn to 2.0 mm, consistent behaviour over the life of the tyre. No experience a puncture on these tyres, so cannot comment on flat running. The tyre rim saver does not prevent damage, even with the lightest accidental touch of the kerb.
Such a poor tyre, these came on the car when I bought and had about 8mm of tread remaining and I was initially pleased as Bridgestone is a reputable brand. During the summer these were good on warm dry roads, the car was however susceptible to tram lining on motorways, I initially put this down to the width of the tyres, how wrong I was.
Once the weather changed my opinion on these tyres changed drastically, the car would dangerously aquaplane on the slightest amount of water and became difficult to control in bad weather, made driving extremely uncomfortable. The slightest amount of mud at the side of the roads was also enough to cause the wheels to lock up under slight braking, I drive mostly on country roads in the Scottish Highlands. My wife's VW Tiguan on Uniroyal Rainsport 5's does not exhibit these traits on the same roads, a far more safe and confident drive.
At my work we have a discovery 4 as well and it runs on Goodyear duratracs and does not exhibit these handling traits in poor weather so it can be directly attributed to the tyres.
Also they are wearing fast, 5000 miles done and 5mm tread gone from the front so its time to change before the winter, 3mm left on the front and 5mm on the back and they have been changed for Goodyear's as I've never had any problems with them.
