With sport tyres, grip in every situation is what decides — under hard acceleration, under braking, in the dry and in the wet. Bridgestone POTENZA S001 belongs to this group. Stability at higher speeds and precision through corners come on top of that. One thing drivers often underestimate when buying: grip comes from a softer compound, and a softer compound wears faster. Where a standard tyre covers roughly 40,000 km, a sport tyre manages about 20,000 to 30,000 km — and considerably less with a sharper driving style or a heavier, more powerful car.

<p>Decent tyre in dry normal conditions. I had these on my 05 Subaru Impreza wrx, initially were grand in the summer, then any wet weather they are lethal! Couldn’t wait to get rid of them. I have them on a bmw 320d f31 now and the same problem, horrendous in the wet, back end will step out on roundabouts with normal driving and cornering. Cant wait to get back to PS5’s of Eagle F1 6’s the difference is night and day.</p>
Coming fresh from Nankang CRS's which developed some flat spots so my opinion will be skewed.
On the limit during a turn there's a sort of rubber band sendation felt through the steering wheel, it's really easy to tell when you're almost on the limit but that last 1% is super vague to me.
Very comfortable and soaks up small amplitude high frequency bumps very well.
It's surprisingly light, holding my old tire one one hand and this on the other it's pretty shocking the difference in weight.
It takes a while to load up on a corner but again once you're on it it communicates well until it gives up.
I'll update this review once I've driven it more.
These were factory tires on our Mazda mx5 2024. They now have 4/32 remaining tread with only 17000 miles. Only riding summer and regular city/autoroute driving. Won’t buy again.
Used them on my 2024 ND3 Mazda MX-5 RF 2.0. These are the factory tires the car comes fitted with. I was not very happy when I found myself having to correct an oversteer while going 50kmh uphill on a wet road. I wasn't driving sporty, it was early in the autumn sub 20C and I was in the 3rd gear. This was one of the main reasons I swapped the factory tires quite quickly at around 12-13k kms. While giving surprisingly good feedback when it comes to steering and overall chassis feeling, these tires aren't suited for fast driving, especially in wet conditions. The tread width is the narrowest in the performance category, and compared to other 205/45r17 tires the S001 only have a 16.5cm contact patch width.
Dry grip, braking and road feel are decent but a lot less capable than Michelin Pilot Sport 5.
Point and case, I've attended an all Miata track event where I managed to be a full 5s faster on a 2 minute track than the next ND3 MX-5 which was also a lot lighter since it was the soft top version and the driver was around 30kg lighter than me. Driving and track knowledge were not a factor since the other driver is arguably more experienced than I am when it came to that circuit and the definitive factor was the tire set.
Confort was quite poor. The MX-5 itself isn't the ride filtering vehicle but these tires didn't help. After exchanging them to the Michelin ones, the bump in confort was imense. It's likely the stiff sidewalls are the culprit.
The best and most surprising thing about the Bridgestone was wear. Even though the car was driven quite sporty most of the time, after 12-13k km usage, the rear tires only lost 4mm and the front 2mm. This was very unexpected and might be a definitive factor for a lot of people.
If living in a country with general good weather, with quality road infrastructure, this set should definitely shortlisted. Just be careful in the wet and don't hope for competitive results on track.
I buy new one Audi A5 Sportback 40TDI quattro at December 2023 with this AO tyres. During winter car was fitted with winter tyres, so now have 50 000km after 2 and half year this tyres pass around 35 000km and they are gone. Few days ago I changed winter tyres to this ones as temperature in my place were +12°C. So I don't feel confident in corners, they look plastic and the sound more louder than winter tyres. On highway drive 140 km/h you brake strong and the rear part of the car start shaking. On the outside city road while raining when I brake ABS start like in the snow, but outside temperature were 11°C. They were excellent first 20 000km but now is time to change factory fit tyres AO after 2 years and 3 months and approx 35 000km driven. I will not buy them again.
