Economy tyres are built around low rolling resistance — the engine spends less effort keeping the wheel turning, and that shows up at the pump. Continental Conti.eContact is one of them. The price is usually a harder compound: on a wet road you need to brake earlier and carry more margin into corners. In return they cover more kilometres than softer compounds. Leading manufacturers keep narrowing the wet-grip gap with new compounds, but a difference between an economy and a standard tyre is normally still there.

What owners say
Fitted as standard to my new car. They "seem" to be OK but as a Summer tyre, are not what I would have fitted for preference - desirably needing a much higher rating to give confidence when driving in both wet & snowy conditions.
Although these tyres have yet to reach 2000 miles, I will be changing them for either Nokian or Goodyear 4 seasons generation 2 tyres in the very near future.
