Economy tyres are built around low rolling resistance — the engine spends less effort keeping the wheel turning, and that shows up at the pump. Continental VANCONTACT ECO is one of them. The price is usually a harder compound: on a wet road you need to brake earlier and carry more margin into corners. In return they cover more kilometres than softer compounds. Leading manufacturers keep narrowing the wet-grip gap with new compounds, but a difference between an economy and a standard tyre is normally still there.
