Technical information
Focus: Sport
With sport tyres, grip in every situation is what decides — under hard acceleration, under braking, in the dry and in the wet. Michelin PILOT SPORT EV belongs to this group. Stability at higher speeds and precision through corners come on top of that. One thing drivers often underestimate when buying: grip comes from a softer compound, and a softer compound wears faster. Where a standard tyre covers roughly 40,000 km, a sport tyre manages about 20,000 to 30,000 km — and considerably less with a sharper driving style or a heavier, more powerful car.

I have a full set of these tyres on my Ioniq 5 and they are brilliant I am very tempted to buy the same replacement tyres as they have been going so well. I have currently covered 55,000 miles and have 2.6 mm left on the most worn tyre. The other three all have 3.6 mmm who said EVs wear tyres heavily? I would say my driving. style was fast and spirited with a trip to North Coast 500
The only reason I would buy anything different is they could be quieter although this is only on paper as I haven't tried a different set on this car. Side walls are starting to crack the tyres are now four years old. Treadwear indicator states 200.
General Performance & Driving Style
Mileage & Age: Purchased in August 2024. Currently at 40,000 km.
Driving Style: Generally calm driving, with occasional hard acceleration when needed.
Treadwear: The tires have worn down to about half their original depth, so I expect to get significant additional mileage from them.
Performance vs. Pilot Sport 4 SUV
Comfort & Noise: The comfort and noise levels are acceptable. Honestly, I don't feel they are significantly stronger or quieter than the PS4 SUV they replaced.
Energy Consumption: The energy consumption feels about the same as the PS4 SUV. I haven't noticed a major improvement in range, which was one of the main reasons for choosing an EV-specific tire.
️ Wet & Winter Traction
Wet Grip: Under hard acceleration on wet roads, the tires still break traction and spin(PS4SUV won't). It's manageable but not exceptionally confidence-inspiring.
Winter Grip: As expected for a summer performance tire, they offer no grip on snow whatsoever ("sliding for sure").
Verdict
After 40,000 km, the PSEV is a competent tire, but for me, it hasn't proven to be a major upgrade over the excellent PS4 SUV. While it handles the demands of an EV and has decent longevity, the promised benefits in efficiency and refinement over its non-EV counterpart are not very noticeable in real-world use. It's a good tire, but perhaps not the revolutionary step up I had hoped for.
I've had these tyres on my car from new and they are now hitting 40,000 miles and still going strong. Excellent wear and longevity - still have another 5-6000 life in them but will be swapping out for Crossclimate 3 Sport this winter as driving to the Alps otherwise would have happily bought the same tyres again. Plenty of grip and responsive handling for daily driving and some spirited B roads. Never aquaplaned even in inches deep standing water. Does understeer very slightly if aggressive turn in on wet roads but quick to regain control. Main negative is the minimal comfort as the road imperfections are directly transmitted to the cabin (although that may well be the car's suspension design) and they are not very quiet unless on perfect tarmac.
There are mixed thoughts it seems with the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyre.
These tyres were the OEM choice on my Cupra Born V3 58kw, and I am still on the original fronts at 30k miles albeit they now need changing due to the side tread disappearing.
I'm not a hooligan with a heavy right foot nor a "Miss Daisy" type of driver, but generally drive with a mixed variety of spirited and casual driving style.
I haven't experienced any moments of loss of grip or felt they aren't up to the job in either wet or dry conditions, but then I guess you adapt to the road conditions as and when some caution is needed, so never pushed them in unfavourable conditions to find out how far they can perform.
The road noise is not as quiet as I would expect considering they have an acoustic membrane inside when comparing with other standard tyres, but then I haven't tried a non EV rated tyre on the car to truly compare the difference.
The original rears lasted around 17k miles before changing, and were still inside the legal limit too, so probably could have got 20k out of them.
The range isn't great with these tyres, but then they have a larger footprint compared with the other Cupra OEM offerings with 18" and 19" wheels that have a much better range.
So, my experience with the Pilot Sport EV are fairly positive and would consider buying again.
My car is a Luxeed R7, weighing 2.3 tons and with 17,000 kilometers on it. It's rear-wheel drive and has a horsepower of just over 300. At that power, it tends to slip in corners. Its grip is the worst of any Michelin tire I've ever used. My biggest complaint about this tire is its wet grip, which is extremely poor and lacks any confidence. Comfort and quietness are decent, though. But considering it costs only 2,000 RMB, while a Continental SC6 only costs 1,800 RMB and a Pirelli PZero E only 1,200 RMB, the Michelin PSEV offers a very poor value for money. I won't consider it again for my next tire change.
