X-ICE XI3

The X-Ice Xi3 is a very soft and squirmy feeling tire. The delayed steering response and oscillations when making small steering corrections combine to be constantly annoying on dry and wet roads. Other winter tires have similar or better snow and ice traction without such annoying steering characteristics. Once the tire is loaded through its initial squirm it is stable and predicable at least, but the lack of precision on center and when steering back to center is unsatisfying. Wet grip is also weak - not as horrible as a half worn Blizzak WS80 but very significantly worse than a VikingContact 7.
Comfort is decent, but let down by annoying extra cycles after bumps and lots of impact noise. Tread noise is low, except for a loud sizzle sound on wet roads especially when accelerating.
Snow and ice grip is good, definitely appropriate for the category and the squirmy feeling is reduced in low grip conditions. The snow/ice performance is not exceptional enough to forgive the compromises in steering, wet grip, and comfort.
Wear is the only exceptional characteristic. Mine still had 8/32nds tread depth when I decided to replace these after just under 17k miles on a VW Jetta Mk7.

Was super good on ice and deep snow, never got stuck or had an unexpected behaviour from this tyre.

Let me begin by saying I drive like a maniac in the snow and icy conditions, I try to pass cars and avoid them spinning out on me so I pass most people. I have a very aggressive driving style once the snow hits the ground. I don't risk this style on turns with the michelin x ice 3 tires as cornering is a little risky for me. As far as driving surfaces that these tires do well with I would say dry pavement 9/10, wet 7/10 (caught some understeer going into a corner too quickly) and rugged ice 8/10, light slush/sleet 9/10. Deep snow over 4 inches I can't really say cause we don't get much deep snow in spokane WA, city cleans it up very quickly. For anything under 3 inches these tires do very well. Drove 10k miles on them and am down to 9/32 and 8/32s. I bought these tires in New condition but aged (made in 2017) they still do very well to drive in the conditions described prior. On polished ice or Deep snow I'm not sure how well they'll perform to a studded tire. On polished ice they don't do very well especially going down hill, caught me by surprise a few times. I get amazing traction very good bite on acceleration and they do well with braking, honestly I'm very impressed.

If you live on the coast where it's wet and temperate in the winters, it's great. Once you start driving in the mountains or places where it really snows, do not get it. On compacted snow or ice, it will just slide like summer tires would. We're on our third year with it and they were great on the coast in the first 2 years. Then we moved inland where there's more ice and snow, these tires were bad. DO NOT BUY FOR ICE AND SNOW DRIVING.

Used them for three winter seasons in Sweden. They feel secure and stable on dry pavement, especially on colder temperatures below 0 celcius. At milder temperatures they becomes sluggish.
They resist aquaplaning perfectly Ok.
Braking in wet is adequate for a nordic winter tyre but not class leading.
Traction and braking on snow covered roads is very good, but they lack grip in cornering. Ice traction is very good, braking good on rugged ice. Less good on wet ice.
Comfort is very good.
Lot’s of thread left. So wear is good.
Low rolling resistance.
I won’t buy them again since they have been discontinued. Michelin is a good reliable brand, if a bit expensive.
