AutoBild All-season SUV tire test 235/65 R17 2023

The all-season and winter tire testing season is officially underway! The first comparison of the year is the prestigious AutoBild AllRad SUV tire test, which tested ten of the latest all-season models in size 235/65 R17. Reference summer and winter tires were also included in the evaluation to clearly see the differences between the individual options.

The test was conducted on the Audi Q3 and AutoBild became the first publication to test a completely new product – the Bridgestone Turanza 6 All Season. Can the new Bridgestone dethrone the long-standing leader, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV ? Read on to find out the results!

In the dry braking discipline , the Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV clearly demonstrated its strength, stopping the vehicle in a distance of 38.1 meters. Although the reference summer tire was the absolute winner with a value of 36.1 meters, Michelin clearly took the lead among the tested all-season tires. It also confirmed its quality in other parameters, such as dry handling .

When it came to dry handling and average speed, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 SUV came out on top, averaging 93.5 km/h. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV came in just behind with a result of 93.4 km/h – matching the performance of the reference summer tire.

The results show that Michelin and Goodyear dominate dry conditions, with both models offering a superior combination of short braking distances, stability and high speed.

On wet roads, the new Bridgestone Turanza 6 All Season came to the fore, managing to stop the vehicle in a 43.9-meter distance, confirming that it is not just a specialist in dry conditions, but a versatile tire with excellent performance in the wet as well .

In the wet handling discipline, the Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus shined, reaching an average speed of up to 83.7 km/h – even beating the reference summer tire (83 km/h). The Vredestein also came close to its best lap time (15.77 s), completing the lap in 15.89 seconds. Although this tire does not have winter potential, in rainy conditions it is one of the best in its class .

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV also confirmed its versatility, dominating the aquaplaning test with an average speed of 89.2 km/h and showing that it is equally strong on dry and wet roads.

The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 SUV also performed very well, coming close to the benchmark winter tire in the lateral acceleration test on a wet track (4.61 m/s² versus 4.71 m/s²). This also makes the Goodyear one of the most balanced all-season tires on the market.

The overall results show that Bridgestone, Vredestein, Michelin and Goodyear offer top performance in the wet, but each excels in a slightly different discipline – whether it's braking, handling or aquaplaning resistance.

On snowy roads , the Uniroyal AllSeasonExpert 2 performed best among all-season tires, stopping the vehicle in 23.5 meters – just a little behind the performance of the reference winter tire (22.9 m). This is a very strong result in snow, but it should be added that in dry conditions the Uniroyal loses to the competition.

The Bridgestone Turanza 6 All Season also performed well again, ranking among the best all-season tires in snow. It confirmed that it is not just a specialist for rain or dry asphalt, but a truly balanced tire with good performance in all conditions - from dry to snow.

In the snow traction discipline , the Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV stood out, achieving a value of 4.52 m/s², making it the best all-season tire outside the reference winter tire. Michelin once again demonstrates its adaptability and versatility, which makes it one of the most reliable choices for drivers looking for certainty all year round.

Winter tests have shown that Uniroyal leads in braking distance, Bridgestone in overall balance and Michelin in traction – each of these models has something to offer and the choice depends mainly on the driver's preferences.
