Mini-test of all-season tires for electric cars 2025
Auto Bild magazine conducted a mini test of all-season tires specifically for electric cars, testing them in size 245/45 R19 on a Hyundai Ioniq 6S .
The German publication subjected the Hankook iON FlexClimate, Michelin CrossClimate 2 and Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV tires to routine testing across different climate zones to determine their performance in all weather conditions .
Although this was a special Auto Bild test with a smaller number of tires, it is still an interesting figure, especially when comparing the new electric car tires from Hankook and Vredestein with the already well-established Michelin CrossClimate 2 .
Drought
On dry roads, the Hankook iON FlexClimate had the shortest braking distance – 39.0 m, closely followed by the Michelin CrossClimate 2 with 40.3 m. The Vredestein Quatrac Pro EV needed 3.3 m more, which can make a noticeable difference in emergency braking.
In the stability and handling test, Hankook led with the highest average speed of 110.1 km/h. Vredestein and Michelin were very evenly matched, confirming that all three tires perform very well in the dry.
Wet
As on dry roads, the Hankook iON FlexClimate achieved the shortest braking distance on wet roads – 39.1 m. The 3.2 m difference between the best and worst tyres shows that safety on wet roads can be significantly different .
Hankook also maintained its advantage in handling, with an average speed of 74.6 km/h, which is 3.5 km/h more than the Michelin CrossClimate 2, and demonstrates better grip and control on wet roads.
In terms of aquaplaning resistance, the Hankook lasted up to 86.0 km/h, which represents the largest safety margin in standing water. The difference of 7.1 km/h compared to the weakest model is significant, especially when driving in heavy rain.
Snow
In winter conditions, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tire stood out, stopping from 50 km/h in just 32.0 m. The 3.3 m difference compared to other tires confirms its excellent grip on snow .
The Michelin was also the fastest when starting off on snow, reaching 40 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, making it the best choice for drivers who regularly drive in winter conditions .
