Do you have a whole herd of horses under the hood in your garage? Then you know that performance is nothing without control. AutoBild Sports Cars magazine took aim at 8 ultra-high performance (UUHP) tires and put them through their paces on the Austrian Wachauring circuit. The test vehicle was none other than a BMW Z4 with a combination of tires: 255/35 R19 at the front and 275/35 R19 at the rear. Which tires will hold you in the corner and which will leave you stranded when it starts to rain?
Winners' podium: Who dominated the asphalt?
- Continental SportContact 7 (Test Winner) – An absolute winner. If you're looking for a tire with no weaknesses, Continental has proven once again that it currently has no competition in braking and handling.
- Bridgestone Potenza Sport Evo – Brutal wet grip and dizzying lateral stability. In the dry, it breathes down the neck of the Continental.
- Vredestein Ultrac Pro – The surprise of the test. A great all-rounder that also beats the competition in terms of cabin quietness.
Detailed results:
Dryland disciplines: Adrenaline under control
When the asphalt is hot, the differences are measured in centimeters. The Continental SportContact 7 stopped from 100 km/h in an incredible 34.2 m. The Bridgestone finished just 20 cm further.
The purists' darling Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S also excelled in handling – while it wasn't the fastest under braking, its steering feedback and cornering precision are still legendary.
Wet disciplines: This is where the fun ends
The wet circuit separated the wheat from the chaff. The Continental reigned supreme again (braking distance 42.4 m ), but the real shocker came from the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport. It needed 51.5 m to stop – that’s 9 meters more than the winner! In the real world, that means the difference between a safe stop and a total.
