Informácie o teste
Off-road:
The test group included the BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2 (not the new KO3, as it was not available in that size), the new Falken Wildpeak AT4W, the Kumho Roadventure AT52, the Nitto Recon Grappler AT and the Toyo Open Country AT. Testing took place on a rallycross track with packed dirt and muddy puddles, mostly in 3rd gear and rear-wheel drive mode.

Toyo and Nitto achieved almost identical times. Nitto had slightly better front grip, but this could have been affected by the surface conditions, so we rated them the same. Kumho finished just a second faster, with good front grip, but at 25 psi it felt too hard. This hardness negatively affected the stability of the rear axle and reduced confidence when driving aggressively, especially when leveling out skids. Kumho also had more problems in muddy sections. Falken and BFG were the fastest on the dirt. BFG achieved the best time thanks to excellent grip, especially when accelerating and braking, but its rigid structure made it difficult to drive over bumps. Although Falken did not have as good front grip as BFG, it was the best maneuverable of the group. It provided the most confidence in dynamic driving and felt the most stable, making it the best overall product, even if it was a bit slower.

Dry road test:
For these tires, how they perform on the road is more important, so we focused on steering predictability, stability, noise and comfort. Testing included two different track configurations and different sized bumps to assess comfort.

The Kumho felt like a sporty tire, with sharp steering that seemed out of place on a truck tire. It remained quiet and offered a good, though not outstanding, level of comfort. The BFGoodrich had the smoothest steering of the group and remained quiet up to higher speeds. Overall comfort was very good, only feeling a little harsh on larger bumps. The Falken again handled everything well. Tread noise was minimal at high speeds and although there was some tread noise when cornering, it was among the best. Comfort levels were also good.

In dry braking, Falken led, followed by Kumho. Toyo and Nitto achieved similar times, while BFGoodrich had the longest braking distance.

Wet road test:
In wet testing, the tires were split into two groups. Nitto, Toyo and BFGoodrich achieved similar times, all showing significant understeer and reduced traction when exiting corners. While understeer can be compensated for in the Raptor by applying throttle, this was not a realistic approach on the test track. Falken and Kumho formed the second group. The Kumho had the best wet grip, but like on clay, it did not offer the ideal balance for the Raptor. The Falken was slightly slower, but had the best overall balance, with good feedback and confidence.

Snow test:
Snow testing proved challenging. Our usual test facility usually has deep snow, but we only found a few inches upon arrival. After waiting a few days, we experienced a light snowfall that quickly melted and refroze, creating terrible testing conditions. Nitto was not included because it is not rated for heavy snow conditions, and limited testing makes it difficult to include snow in the final results.

In snow braking, BFGoodrich led, followed closely by Toyo, with Kumho and Falken slightly behind. In handling, Toyo edged out BFGoodrich, while Kumho and Falken achieved similar times. Falken told us that they have slightly reduced snow performance on the LT (Light Truck) AT4W size to improve performance in other areas.

Test conclusion:
Based on extensive testing of off-road tires, the Falken Wildpeak AT4W was found to offer the best overall performance, with excellent balance on and off-road. The BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2 dominated off-road with strong traction, but its stiffness reduced comfort. The Kumho Road Venture AT52 surprised with sporty handling and good wet grip, but struggled off-road and with comfort. The Toyo Open Country AT III and Nitto Recon Grappler AT achieved similar results, with the Nitto being noisier and the Toyo quieter. In dry tests, the Falken led in braking, while the BFGoodrich had the longest stopping distance. In the wet, the Falken again showed balanced performance, while the Kumho had the best grip but worse handling. In snow tests, the BFGoodrich proved to be the best in braking, but the Toyo was better in handling. In terms of value, the Falken offered the best price-to-life ratio thanks to a better warranty.
